Thanks to funding from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, screening for Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD) will begin in Ontario throughout 2017. CCHD screening is a safe test performed at the bedside that can detect low oxygen levels, a common sign of these serious heart diseases.

The continued involvement of NSO, birth hospitals and midwifery practices plays a big role in ensuring Ontario’s newborns get timely access to newborn screening.
